Social Distancing, How To Use Your Time

With all the changes that have been happening due to the outbreak of COVID-19, it is important that we do not let it get the best of us.

It is a very challenging time, but as a community, if we practice social distancing and follow protocols set out by the Government, we will get it through it and be even stronger on the other end!

What exactly is Social Distancing anyways?

Social distancing practices are changes in behavior that can help stop the spread of infections. This includes making adjustments to work from home, not go to school, and especially not go places with groups of ten or more people. Avoiding public spaces and unnecessary social gatherings, especially events with large numbers of people or crowds, will lower the chance that you will be exposed to coronavirus as well as other illnesses such as the flu.

While it’s crucial to slowing the spread of COVID-19, practicing social distancing will result in fewer face-to-face social interactions, potentially increasing the risk of loneliness.

Humans are social beings. Self-isolation will be a challenge for certain people.  While we can’t replace the value of face-to-face interactions, we need to be flexible and think creatively in these circumstances.

During this time try to stay connected with friends and family. Especially older people who are more susceptible to COVID-19. They are more likely to suffer from anxiety and loneliness and may not have access to all the technology that keeps us connected on a regular basis.

Along with staying connected, now is a good time to focus on your own well-being and mental health. If you have more free time, don't be afraid to get out of the house and get some fresh air. Connecting with nature is a great way to feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Get as much physical exercise as possible!

Although gyms are closed, get creative with some at-home workouts. On our Facebook and Instagram pages, you can find plenty of routines, exercises, and mobility drills to keep you busy!
